Next PCORI Fees Are Due in July

As you may recall, the Affordable Care Act imposed a fee on issuers of self-insured health coverage to help fund the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). The fee amount is based on the average number of lives covered by the plan in a year. Currently, the applicable rate is $2.17 for plan years ending January 2016 – December 2016 and the return must be filed no later than July 31, 2017. If a Plan has no other liabilities, it is only required for file the Form 720 once a year with the PCORI fee. Plans that are required to pay the PCORI fee as well as other fees will use their second quarter Form 720 to report and pay the PCORI fee.
