Communicating Employee Benefits Effectively

An Aflac Workforce Report recently found that only 20% of employees felt that their employer communicates benefits effectively. Without effective communication employees won’t adequately utilize the benefits they are provided and consequently will not appreciate or see the value in those benefits. Communication experts suggest using a variety of mediums to communicate benefits so that employees can choose to engage on their own terms. These channels might include: videos, posters, postcards, websites, e-mail, or benefit fairs. Additionally, as with any communication, it is important to write to your audience, making sure all communications are concise and easy to understand. Plan sponsors should work with their vendors and consultants to ensure that plan benefits are being effectively communicated to participants.
