Recently the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the 2018 rates for Medicare Part A and Part B premiums, deductibles, and coinsurance. Medicare Part B typically covers traditional medical services. The Part B premium will remain at $134 for 2018, but for many retirees this rate will be an increase because they were paying a reduced rate of $109 due to a special provision that expires in 2018. The Part B deductible will also remain at $183 in 2018. Medicare Part A typically covers hospital services (including skilled nursing and hospice). The deductible and coinsurance rates for Part A will increase by 1.83% in 2018. For a vast majority of retirees, Medicare Part A is free so there are no monthly premiums.
